Methadone

 
  • Club Drugs are typically used at all-night dance parties, dance clubs, bars, and raves.  Besides the individual dangerous effects of the drugs, club drugs are also used for drug-facilitated sexual assault (date rape).  In the drug-facilitated sexual assaults, the drugs make the victims either physically incapacitated or cause unconsciousness or memory loss.

GHB


  • What is it?

GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate) is a central nervous system depressant that is naturally produced in the human body in small amounts.  A synthetic was developed in the 1920s as an anesthetic and continued being developed in the 1960s.  GHB was also sold in health food stores to help body builders stimulate muscle growth, similar to growth hormones.  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) banned it in 1990, however it is still sold in some European countries and an anesthetic or a growth hormone.

  • Street Names

Cherry meth, Easy lay, Everclear, Fantasy, G-riffic, Georgia home boy, Goops, Jib, Liquid ecstacy, Liquid E, Liquid X, Organic quaalude, Salty water, Scoop, Sleep, Sleep-500, Soap, Vita-G.

  • Uses

In the United States, it is mostly used illegally for assistance in date rape.  In other countries, it is typically used as an anesthetic or a growth hormone.

  • Dangers

Bradycardia, respiratory depression, hallucinations, amnesia.

  • What to look for

White odorless powder, tablet, or capsule; relaxes or sedates the body and slows breathing and heart rate.

  • Detection Limits

GHB can be tested for up to 72 hours in urine.

 

Rohypnol


  • What is it?

Rohypnol, brand name for flunitrazepam, is a benzodiazepine that acts as a central nervous system depressant, similar to Valium.

  • Street Names

Circles, Forget-me pill, La rocha, Lunch money drug, Mexican valium, Pingus, R-2, Reynolds, Roach-2, Roaches, Roachies, Roapies, Robutal, Rochas dos, Rope, Rophies, Rophy, Ropies, Row-shay, Ruffies, Wolfies.

  • Uses

Rohypnol is available for prescription for short-term treatment of severe sleep disorders in countries other than the United States.  In the United States, Rohypnol is illegal to manufacture, prescribe, or use.  Also widely used illegally for assistance in date rape.

  • Dangers

Respiratory depression, hypotension, disorientation, dizziness, visual disturbances, anterograde amnesia.

  • What to look for

Odorless, tasteless, white tablet, also can be caplets that are dull green with a blue core; sedative effects, including amnesia, muscle relaxation and the slowing of psychomotor performance.

  • Detection Limits

Rohypnol can be tested in the urine for 1 to 3 days.

 

Ketamine


  • What is it?

Ketamine is typically used as a veterinary anesthetic.

  • Street Names

Cat valium, Green K, Honey oil, Jet, K-hole, Keets, Ket, Kit kat, Lady K, Purple, Special K, Special la coke, Super acid, Super C, Vitamin K.

  • Uses

Widely used as a veterinary anesthetic, also used illegally for assistance in date rape.

  • Dangers

Tachycardia, hypertension, nystagmus, respiratory depression, visual hallucinations, cataleptic state.

  • What to look for

Liquid or white powder; as a dissassociative drug that produces effects similar to PCP, it can put users into a dreamlike, hallucinogenic state.

  • Detection Limits

Ketamine can be detected in urine for up to 1 to 2 days after use.

 

LSD


  • What is it?

LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) is a synthetic drug that was originally researched to develop psychological therapy.

  • Street Names

Acid, Blotter, Cid, Back breaker, Battery acid, Doses, Dots, Elvis, Loony toons, Lucy in the sky with diamonds, Microdots, Pane, Tabs, Trips, Superman, Window pane, Zen.

  • Uses

There is no current medicinal use and is currently banned in the United States.  It is also used illegally for assistance in date rape.

  • Dangers

Tachycardia, hypertension, hyperthermia, mydriasis, lacrimation, visual hallucinations, synthesias ataxia, tremors, schizophrenia, severe depression.  Flashbacks can occur years after stopping use of the drug.

  • What to look for

Colorless, odorless tablets or capsules (microdots), liquid solution on gelatin (window panes), liquid solution diluted and impregnated on blotting paper (blotter); mood-altering effects, flashbacks, severe depression.

  • Detection Limits

LSD can be detected in urine up to 8 hours after use.

 

MDMA/Ecstasy


  • What is it?

MDMA/Ecstasy (3, 4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine) is a synthetic drug that was originally developed in Germany as an appetite suppressant but is widely abused today for its hallucinogenic effects.

  • Street Names

B-bombs, Clarity, Cristal, Decadence, Disco biscuit, E, Essence, Eve, Go, Hug drug, Iboga, Love drug, Morning shot, Pollutants, Scooby snacks, Speed for lovers, Sweeties, Wheels, X.

  • Uses

There is currently no medicinal use for MDMA, however, it is widely abused at raves and is used illegally for assistance in date rape.

  • Dangers

Dehydration, hyperthermia, heart or kidney failure, brain damage, Parkinson's disease, death.

  • What to look for

Tablets of various colors and shapes and generally imprinted with a logo; confusion, depression, anxiety, sleeplessness, craving for the drug, paranoia, muscle tension, involuntary teeth clenching, nausea, blurred vision, tremors, rapid eye movement, sweating, chills, increased heart rate and blood pressure.

  • Detection Limits

MDMA can be detected in urine, saliva, and hair.  In urine, it can be detected 1 to 3 days; in saliva, 24 to 36 hours; in hair, up to 90 days.
